Item Description
Would you like to help with a huge party in 2085? Yes, I mean 2085!

This creative book tells about two journeys, the first led by Meriwether and William in 1803, the second by a family two hundred years later. The story ends with news of an important cache of historic artifacts and an invitation to participate in the cache opening. This time capsule is sealed in the basement of the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport near Belgrade, Montana. It is packed with over 4,000 items from the Bicentennial commemoration of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It is a gift to people in 2085 to help them prepare for the 300th anniversary of this very significant event in our nation’s history. The cache features multiple items that tell about the Expedition which became a part of the USA with the Louisiana Purchase.

This 44-page, full-color book was written to help insure that the cache will be opened on August 2, 2085. Read it and enjoy the beautiful work of Jim’s nephew, Gary Little, a freelance artist who lives in Billings, Montana. Help preserve the book to make the opening an extraordinary event.

Image For "Grandma Berta and A One Room School" by Jim Sargent

"Grandma Berta and A One Room School" by Jim Sargent

Item Description
This book is about the Cherry Creek School in rural Montana. One of the individuals who started the school was the author’s grandmother. Berta sailed the Atlantic from Norway to America in 1880 and most of her family followed. She helped get Cherry Creek built and functioning. From its beginning in the 1910s to its closing in the 1970s, her descendants became students, parents of students, teachers, clerks and trustees.

Cherry Creek School was located not far from where Berta and her husband, Gabriel Berg, homesteaded. Their kids tell of living in a tent on the land for three months where they staked their claim.

This story intersects with some of the early history of the college in Bozeman. A young Dane came to America about twenty years before Berta and ended up in Bozeman. Peter Koch played a major role in the formation and mission of this land grant college including a Secondary Course program for students who completed the eighth grade. Four of Berta and Gabriel’s children were among those who attended in 1917-1920. Over 80 descendants followed to take classes at what is now Montana State University.

Image For Berrigan's Ride by Jan Elpel

Berrigan's Ride by Jan Elpel

Item Description
Kent Berrigan never expected to fall in love with raw, remote Montana Territory. He recognizes himself in the night flight of wild horses running past his shack in the gold fields of Madison County, 1866. "His pulse stimulated to breaking in this land of intemper-ance, temper, and indifference with an edge on its own terms. He yearned to run with the herd--as with the horses, another life formed a past he ran from, or a future he was running toward..."

Kent settles on Norwegian Creek with other Rebels, a dog and a captured wild horse. After a friend was murdered, he follows his heart to California gold camps in pursuit of Marion Patton, an independent woman with a vision for the country, if not of her own destiny. Eventually, an Alder Gulch mine tragedy near Virginia City forces Kent to confront his unresolved relationship with the North.

Image For Zero Waste in the Last Best Place by Bradley Edward Layton

Zero Waste in the Last Best Place by Bradley Edward Layton

    Item Description
An engineer and scientist has released his comprehensive guide to achieving a zero-waste lifestyle, becoming landfill-free and, ultimately, committing to a more earth- friendly and consumer conscious way of life.

In “Zero Waste in the Last Best Place,” author Bradley Edward Layton, PhD, PE, puts forth a historical examination of how people have interacted with and disposed of waste from the dawn of humanity, through the Stone Age and Industrial Revolution, to present day. He also shares his own journey to zero waste and discusses critical topics, such as the negative impact pollution and fossil fuels have on the environment and positive results that have arisen from waste repurposing case studies.

“The stories and photographs in this book detail my quest to find a means by which our modern society can move away from the notion of waste and toward a system in which all materials retain their value indefinitely,” Dr. Layton said. “Rather than paying to throw things ‘away,’ my hope is that we can learn how to put these materials back to use and help our future generations prosper.”

“The act of recycling leads to creative ideas and innovations that can potentially become highly profitable business opportunities and essential technologies for creating a more sustainable civilization for all,” an Amazon customer wrote in a review of the book. “Zero Waste will keep any recycling nerd awake at night with fresh inspirations to up the game and take recycling to the next level.”

Peppered with entertaining anecdotes of dumpster diving, backyard bartering and other hijinks, Dr. Layton’s book offers readers an easy-to-follow manual for jumpstarting their landfill-free life and presents a relatable, empowering and informative method for achieving sustainable solid waste management.
