How long does it take to process my order?

Orders are processed once a business day in the morning. If your order is received after the daily processing, your order will be filled the next business day in the order it was received.

I have placed my order and my credit card hasn’t been charged yet, why?

We process your card after we have pulled the product and are ready to ship, this lets us verify your order and product before taking payment.

What if my parents want to help pay for my books and school supplies?

We offer the option for parents to securely store their credit card information at our customer service desk to allow their students to charge the card. Parents are allowed to set up restrictions for their cards so that students are only allowed to purchase approved items. MSU Bookstore’s customer service phone number is toll free 1-800-247-2546.

Can I pay using my Cat Card?

Yes, students are allowed to pay using their Cat Card. There are two accounts on Cat Cards. We can only access the Cat Cash account. The CNC Cash account is not usable in MSU Bookstore and is strictly for meal plans, laundry and printing.

Why can’t I use a PO Box number for my shipping address?

We ship via UPS which cannot deliver to PO Boxes.

Where do I find my shopping cart?

In the top right corner under the header is an image of a shopping cart. This will take you to your cart. Once you are ready to continue to checkout, it will take you to a sign-in page. You can either sign in as a guest or as a returning customer. Being a returning customer, your billing and shipping address is saved for you.

 Why can’t I get my money back when doing a return after writing a check?

We have to wait for the check to clear. Depending on the size of the check, we require 10 to 15 days for the check to clear. While we wait, you will receive an MSU Bookstore gift card, and then once the check has cleared the bank, you can exchange the gift card for cash.

What are the store hours?

MSU Bookstore is open 7:45 to 5:30 Monday thru Friday and 10:00 to 4:30 on Saturdays during the school year. During the summer and holiday breaks we are open 8:00 to 5:00 Monday thru Friday and closed weekends. We are also closed all major and government holidays. See our hour’s page for more details.

I hear that as a student I am an owner of MSU Bookstore. What does that mean?

MSU Bookstore is student and faculty owned and in order to give back to our owners, all textbooks and general books are offered at a 10% discount. In order to make it easier for you to compare textbook prices, the discount is built in to the price. We offer other discounts as well by having our margins on art and school supplies less than the suggested market value.

Are you hiring?

We are almost always looking for employees to help in every department. We mostly hire work-study students but encourage all to apply. We work around student’s schedules to make it easy for everyone.

Can I get cash back with my debit card or by overwriting a check?

No, at this time we do not offer cash back options. However, the SUB has multiple ATM’s located directly outside of the bookstore, and even a bank upstairs for your cash back needs.

Textbooks

What if my course isn’t listed when searching for my books?

It means one of two things: either it means you don’t have a required book for your class or It could mean the professor hasn’t turned in an order yet. Ask your professor to verify you don’t need a textbook.

Can I rent my textbooks?

Yes, the list of rentable books grows each year. In order to rent textbooks, the student is required to have a CREDIT card on file that expires after the return date (the final day of finals). If the book is not returned by the due date, the credit card on file will be charged the difference between the purchase and the rent price as well as a $10 service charge.

Why can’t I use my debit card to secure rentals?

We need to cover ourselves against loss in case you don’t return your book by the due date. Credit cards are more likely to have funds available than debit cards. According to Montana law, a person is required to return rented or leased property. More questions, visit http://leg.mt.gov/bills/mca/45/6/45-6-309.htm.

What if I want to buy my rented textbooks?

Easy. All you have to do is come into the textbook department before the rental return date with your book and receipt and talk to an associate. They will take you to our accounting window, return the rented books, and then have you purchase it.

How do I find the books I need for my class?

You can search your courses at http://montanastate.verbacompare.com and compare prices from other companies such as B&N, Amazon, Chegg, and Redshelf for ebook offerings. You can shop all sites straight from our website msubookstore.org and check out from each store separately.

What is the difference between buyback and refunds?

Refunds are only accepted through the first two weeks of class. In order to do a refund, you must have the receipt and the book must be in the same condition as when you purchased it. We will give you a full refund and the money will be given back to you the same format you paid i.e. If you pay using your debit card it will be returned to your card. If your new book is no longer in new condition, we will give you a refund for the used price. All access codes must be intact and all shrink-wrapping still together.

Buyback is when we purchase your books based upon the market value of the book from our wholesalers or for bookstore needs. We do buybacks most Fridays and then the last week of finals. Buybacks do not require a receipt. Not all books are eligible for buyback. If you wait for buyback until the end of the semester, we will usually give you a little bit more, because we are purchasing books for our next semesters sales.

Why was I shipped a new book when I requested a used copy?

Not all books come used. Some are newly released editions or are printed here on campus, so we cannot guarantee a used copy. There is an option during textbook checkout where you can communicate whether you would like a new copy or no copy if used is unavailable.

Can my i>Clicker 1 work instead of buying an i>Clicker 2?

Some i>Clicker systems in the classrooms still work with i>Clicker 1’s, however the campus is updating the systems and in the near future i>Clicker 1’s will become obsolete.

 

Computers

As a student, how do I get Microsoft Office 365?

For every year that you are a student, you are eligible for 5 free licenses of Office 365. Visit http://www.montana.edu/office365/student/office.html and follow the instructions.

What if I don’t want a Mac computer, can I purchase a Windows machine?

Yes, we keep a small selection of Windows machines in stock, however we can also special order a wide assortment of Windows computers. Bring in either a brand preference or specific model and we will see what we can get you.

Who is eligible for Apple computer discounts and what are the discounts?

MSU Students, staff and faculty are all eligible for Apple’s education discount. We can only sell to MSU affiliates, so you must present an MSU id such as a Cat Card. MSU affiliates include all MSU branches such as MSU Billings and MSU Northern. The discounts range from $50 to $200 depending on the model of compute. Can I trade in my old device to help pay for my new one?

Yes, we work with a company called Encore that does trade-ins. We can either offer you in-store credit or you can receive a check from Encore after they verify the condition. If you want to know how much we will offer, visit https://msu.tradeitin.net and follow the onscreen prompts.

Do you offer accidental protection for devices purchased through MSU Bookstore?

Yes, we have joined with Consumer Priority Service to offer 3 and 4 year packages of accidental damage protection for both Mac and PC devices.  Stop in to the computer department or call 406-994-5836 for more information.

My computer is broken; does MSU Bookstore offer tech services?

Yes, we do. Out of warranty work is offered, stop by or call 406-994-5836 for more information. We are in the process of becoming Apple Certified and will soon be able work on Apple Warranty computers as well.

 

Merchandise

Is the product on line the same as what is in the store?

Yes, we do not have a warehouse; we store all of our product in our main store, which means everything online is also available in store.

Where all can I shop MSU Bookstore?

We have one main location on campus in the SUB as well as three locations inside Bobcat stadium during home games. The merchandise in the remote stores come from our main location, and can be returned back at any of the remote stores as well as the main location with a receipt. If none of these are convenient for you, you can shop msubookstore.org 24/7.

I purchased a shirt from your website, but my confirmation email come from different company. Why?

We work with a company called Fanatics, who has a link on our page. They are their own company, so product purchased from them will come from their warehouse and they will ship the order directly to you.
